Don’t Hold Out For “Strange” February Event, iPad To Be Announced In March

It’s hardly surprising to hear The Loop’s well-connected Jim Dalrymple note that, according to his sources, Apple isn’t planning on holding a “strange” event in February. Despite the oft-unreliable Macotakara’s claims of two events in two months (for February and March) – which we told you about yesterday – it would appear that Apple, as many originally expected, is looking to hold one single event in March, at which the iPad 3 will presumably be announced.

The tablet itself is expected to feature a quad-core processor, along with support for LTE, though nothing has been announced by Apple. The processor, we think, is a given; support for LTE is also likely – many thought this might launch with the fifth-generation iPhone, though AT&T did note that its first LTE iOS device would be the iPad 3, back in June last year. If this does happen, we can expect the iPhone 5 to follow suit later in the year.

As always, we’ll keep you posted.

This seems to be consistent with what I’m hearing from other places on the web. Guessing that the rumor mill is going to heat up all through February. It’s going to be fun watching how this all plays out.

Excellent comparison of Amazon Kindle and B&N Nook

I came across a post on Teleread.com referencing a really good summary on the differences between the Amazon Kindle 3G and the new Nook from Barnes & Noble.

Here’s the link to the Teleread post: Nook vs. Kindle – features

Here’s the link to the original post by Andrys Basten that Teleread referenced from A Kindle World blog: Nook vs. Kindle: features.

This was a really thorough review and well worth checking out if you’re considering either one of these devices.

Guess Who’s Exhibiting At BookExpo America For The First Time? Apple | paidContent

Apple (NSDQ: AAPL), which almost never appears at industry conferences unless it is doing the hosting, will exhibit this year at BookExpo America, the largest trade book fair in the United States. The company has a large booth in a prime location, next door to Scholastic and in the same area as major publishers including Random House, Disney (NYSE: DIS) Book Group and Macmillan. BEA’s website notes that Apple will be represented by Scott Simpson from Apple’s iBookstore.

Looks like Apple is beginning to be more assertive in promoting their iBookstore. All in all, I think this is a good thing – especially in the face of strong ebook performance from Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

I love my iPad, but I still find myself purchasing most of my ebooks from Amazon simply because they provide more flexibility. With Amazon, I can read the same book on either my Kindle, iPad, iPhone or desktop computer. This convenience means a lot as there is typically little or no difference in the price of the book.

It will be interesting to see what kind of value story that Apple can give to iBooks to overcome the buy once, read anywhere campaign that Amazon uses.

ACX – Audiobook Creation Exchange

Saw a note on the Teleread.com blog ( http://www.teleread.com/paul-biba/audible-launches-the-audiobook-creation-exchange/ ) that Audible is launching the Audiobook Creation Exchange to help authors create a professionally published audiobook version of their written works.

This is exciting news. I’ve always been a big fan of audiobooks and have utilized Audible.com for many years along with other online sites for audiobook content. This will hopefully make creating audio works much more accessible for independent authors.
